What is Defensible Space?
Defensible space is when the landscape and vegetation are managed on your property to reduce the wildfire threat. We recommend a coupled approach of creating defensible space and hardening your home to withstand wildfire.

The following professionals have completed the Living With Fire 10-hour Defensible Training for Landscape Professionals in the last three years. This training includes instruction on wildfire behavior, defensible space, and creating aesthetically pleasing landscapes that reduce the wildfire threat. Are You a Professional Interested in Taking the Defensible Space Training?
The Defensible Space Training for Landscape Professionals is usually held annually in the Fall. Upcoming trainings with open registration are listed below. If no currently open trainings are listed, please complete this form to receive an email notification when the next training dates are announced.
About the Training:
This course will include sessions from the University of Nevada, Reno Extension staff, and other experts, covering a wide range of topics related to wildfire risk reduction, defensible space, fire behavior, horticulture, and more. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts in a classroom setting. They will then be able to apply the concepts and knowledge gained during a field site visit, putting theory into practice. Participants who complete this training will be listed on the Tahoe Living With Fire website.
